The most significant feature of the mountain is the Kinnaur Kailash Shivlingam, a natural, massive rock pillar standing at an altitude of approximately 4,800 meters (15,750 feet).

  • A Sacred Symbol: This towering rock is revered by both Hindus and Buddhists and is believed to be the winter abode of Lord Shiva. It is also one of the five sacred "Panch Kailashas" in Hinduism.

  • The Changing Colors: A unique spectacle is that the Shivling rock pillar is said to change colors throughout the day, shifting from white in the morning to yellow, red, and finally dark grey at night, symbolizing its divine energy.

  • Mythology: Local legends hold that this was the meeting place of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It is also believed that Lord Shiva holds a meeting of the gods and goddesses here every winter.
